My birthday is in February and this year I was gifted with a handmade card from my nephew, Alex. He loves to draw and I’ve been really into his drawings since he started. He has this confidence when he draws and I really admire the way he’s absolutely sure about every little line that he draws. The theme of my birthday card was land and the sea with the land creatures on the left side of the card and the sea creatures on the right.

Right away, the octopus jumped out at me as being the most adorable drawing of an octopus I’ve ever seen and I couldn’t stop raving about it. I decided right then that I was going to have to do something with it, but had no idea what that would be. When I got home I pinned the card up next to my drawing desk and every now and then I’d look at it and think “What am I going to do with that octopus?”

Finally inspiration struck and I started work on this

I thought it looked like a vacation picture so I added the blurry finger tip in the upper left. I hope you enjoy Alex’s Octopus as much as I do!  –S.
