MUM’S PAINTING

"Wonder of the World" by Anya Adams

There’s no doubt about it, I get my artistic streak from my mum. I’m so excited to see that she’s still painting I thought I’d share it here. Keep on painting, Mum!  -S.

DEATH PINUP

Death

When I was 15 I was obsessed with Death… and all of her siblings. Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman was my favorite comic and I couldn’t get enough. It was a good thing that I got to the party so late because there were already 6 years worth of stories to read. I loved the way that something from early on in the series would come up again so many issues later and make me think “Oh, that was clever” or {Read More}

PROPAGANDA: INDEPENDENCE FOR SCOTLAND

Yes! for Scottish Independence!

On this beautiful Independence Day here in the USA, I feel like it’s important to talk about the upcoming referendum in Scotland on September 18th 2014. If I could vote in this national referendum, which poses the question “Should Scotland be an independent country?” my vote would be a resounding yes! Or as we say back in Scotland, “Aye!” I’m so excited for the referendum even if it doesn’t pass quite yet, I think it’s wonderful that the question is being {Read More}

AHSOKA TANO: ONE LOVELY JEDI

Ahsoka Facebook Banner

This drawing presented a challenge: make a highly stylized animated character look a little more realistic. I wanted Ahsoka to look  more like the Leia and Padmé drawings and less like she does in the Clone Wars serials, but it’s not like I could base her likeness on a human actress. What to do?! It took some thought but I came up with what I thought the tough little Togruta would look like if she was to be played by {Read More}

LIGHTSABER GIF!

Lightsaber WIP GIF

I’ve been posting screen shots on Facebook  of the Ahsoka Tano drawing I’m working on for my Star Wars ladies set, but I wanted to go a little more in depth so I made an animated gif! I’m still working on tightening up the outlines and I haven’t added the shading to most of the handle yet, but I’m almost done with one of Ahsoka’s lightsabers so I  thought before I’m finished I should show you my process in gif form. {Read More}

HELLO 2014!

I used the milk paint like a wash for a vintage look

Happy New Year! I haven’t been posting much lately because I’ve been busy redecorating. Do you have any cheap IKEA furniture that you are absolutely sick of looking at? Then try painting it! This morning I finished applying a finishing wax to some IKEA chairs I’ve had for about 10 years. If you have never used Annie Sloan’s chalk paint, I recommend it. One coat covers really well but allows the natural wood grain to show through giving a really {Read More}

KING KRULE AT THE INDEPENDENT

King Krule @ The Independent SF

On Monday night I had the pleasure of seeing King Krule play at the Independent in SF with my bestie. I have to be honest, I wasn’t actually expecting that level of musicianship so I was pretty blown away when these kids got going. They came out on stage and they looked so young and fresh faced, but they played and conducted themselves like old pros that have been doing this for years. I generally don’t like to pull my {Read More}

EL DIA DE TONY

Dia De Los Tony 6inches

Feliz Dias de los Muertos! Since it is the Day of the Dead and his birthday, I decided to do a little painting to honor my late friend, Tony.   Here is the skull, slightly closer up   I wasn’t sure how I was going to represent the facial hair. I did a rough sketch that ended up looking more like the Breaking Bad character, Walter White!   Anyway, happy birthday Tony! And happy day of the dead, everyone!  -S.

A BAND CALLED DEATH

Death Album Cover

I remember seeing this New York Times article years ago about the Detroit band, Death, but I have just finished watching the documentary about them and it was so inspiring and so moving I just had to jump online and talk about it. ‘A Band Called Death’ is the story of the band, formed by three brothers in 1973, and their attempts at getting signed and the rejection that followed mostly due to their name. The rejection may also have {Read More}
