EL DIA DE TONY

Feliz Dias de los Muertos! Since it is the Day of the Dead and his birthday, I decided to do a little painting to honor my late friend, Tony.   Here is the skull, slightly closer up   I wasn’t sure how I was going to represent the facial hair. I did a rough sketch that ended up looking more like the Breaking Bad character, Walter White!   Anyway, happy birthday Tony! And happy day of the dead, everyone!  –S.

A BAND CALLED DEATH

I remember seeing this New York Times article years ago about the Detroit band, Death, but I have just finished watching the documentary about them and it was so inspiring and so moving I just had to jump online and talk about it. ‘A Band Called Death’ is the story of the band, formed by three brothers in 1973, and their attempts at getting signed and the rejection that followed mostly due to their name. The rejection may also have {Read More}

HALLOWEEN FUN!

Happy Halloween!  –S.

NO POACHING!

This charming Lego stop motion animation, made by my friend Gabe Jensen and his daughter, totally made my morning! Not bad for a video that’s under a minute long! Check it out and if you like it as much as I do, give it a thumbs up!  –S.

BOSTON METAPHYSICAL SOCIETY MINI-SERIES

I was asked by the lovely Madeleine Holly-Rosing if I would help spread the word about the Kickstarter campaign to fund the final three issues of her steampunk themed webcomic mini-series, Boston Metaphysical Society, and of course I said yes! The first three issues of the comic can be read on the website, which is great because that way you can make an informed decision about becoming a backer. And I hope you do because I want to find out how it ends! In {Read More}

MUTE

Look at this CG animation short from Dutch animation studio Job, Joris & Marieke! It is both utterly charming and seriously disturbing at the same time. I love the way they animated the boobs! Boobs. Boobs. Now that word doesn’t seem real to me. Anyway, according to this post from DigitalArts, the film has been screened at the Dutch Film Festival and the Anim’est festival in Bucharest. Congrats J, J & M!  –S.

CATCHING UP

It has been a while since I’ve posted, so much has happened in the last month and a half. I started working in from a different location, I got a nasty cold virus, the company I work for merged with six other companies, then a bunch of really fun stuff happened. I have been out almost every night for the last two weeks, so today was all about relaxing, taking naps and catching up with Breaking Bad before the finale {Read More}

KING KRULE

I love music and one of my favorite things in the world is finding a new band or musician that really shakes me up and makes me excited a little obsessed. My last music obsession was Grimes. Well honestly I’m still not quite over that obsession, but I want to tell you about my latest one. Thanks to my bestie for turning me onto King Krule (aka 18 year old Londoner Archie Marshall) formerly Zoo Kid is a singer/songwriter with {Read More}

ZODIAC STARFORCE

Today I happened upon a beautifully illustrated new web comic called Zodiac Starforce and it looks like it’s going to be awesome! I’m loving the artwork by Paulina Ganucheau, the story has just begun but it certainly seems promising and so far all the main characters are girls so that’s always cool to see. It looks like the comic updates every Tuesday night at 8pm. I’ll be putting this on my calendar for sure. Check it out and let me {Read More}

ALEX’S OCTOPUS

My birthday is in February and this year I was gifted with a handmade card from my nephew, Alex. He loves to draw and I’ve been really into his drawings since he started. He has this confidence when he draws and I really admire the way he’s absolutely sure about every little line that he draws. The theme of my birthday card was land and the sea with the land creatures on the left side of the card and the {Read More}
