ZODIAC STARFORCE

Go check it out!

Today I happened upon a beautifully illustrated new web comic called Zodiac Starforce and it looks like it’s going to be awesome! I’m loving the artwork by Paulina Ganucheau, the story has just begun but it certainly seems promising and so far all the main characters are girls so that’s always cool to see. It looks like the comic updates every Tuesday night at 8pm. I’ll be putting this on my calendar for sure. Check it out and let me {Read More}

ALEX’S OCTOPUS

Alex's Octopus Featured

My birthday is in February and this year I was gifted with a handmade card from my nephew, Alex. He loves to draw and I’ve been really into his drawings since he started. He has this confidence when he draws and I really admire the way he’s absolutely sure about every little line that he draws. The theme of my birthday card was land and the sea with the land creatures on the left side of the card and the {Read More}

QUEEN AMIDALA

Queen Amidala Final JPEG copy

Today I finished the second in a series of art nouveau inspired drawings of the ladies of Star Wars. This drawing is of Queen Amidala wearing the frilly gown from the parade scene in Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. I was able to add more detail to this drawing than the Leia one since I used the Intuos Cintiq this time around. I also borrowed Tatooine and Polis Massa and the surrounding moons, suns, etc. from the Leia drawing so {Read More}

LOVE & THEFT

© Andreas Hykade

Today I was checking out the Facebook page of the talented and accomplished artist, Jim Woodring. If you’re not familiar with his dream inspired work I suggest you check it out. Anyway, this morning, Woodring posted a short animated film by Bavarian animator, Andreas Hykade, called Love & Theft and it’s pretty psychedelic and hypnotic. Check it out:     I’m going to have to watch this a few more times to absorb some of the symbolism. I’ll also be checking out Hykade’s other animations. Here’s {Read More}

GIFT WRAP, TEA PAINTING & DEADEYES

Tea Painting

I feel like I haven’t blogged in a while. After rebuilding my site, spending time categorizing my past blog posts and learning my way around Corel Painter I guess I haven’t had much time for blogging. So this is just a quick post about stuff that’s been going on over the last month or so. First off, I got some goodies from Spoonflower. Here is my Princess Leia drawing as gift wrap. Fun!   And here are the swatches of {Read More}

NEW TOOLS

Skulls feature image

  Yesterday I received a very welcome package at my door, my new Intuos5 by Wacom. New tools are always exciting but they usually take a bit of practice to get used to. Here’s my first practice piece; a bit rough but I’m getting the hang of it. Along with the tablet I also got a copy of Painter 12, another new tool for me to learn and get acquainted with. I’m pretty excited to dive in and see what {Read More}

NOW-DEPRECATED AESTHETIC

An article (with a slideshow of some of the work!) was recently posted on The Alamedan about ‘The Altered Paintings Project’ show, on now through June 9th at REDUX Studios & Gallery. The write up is by Michael Singman-Aste, a local award winning photographer, curator and blogger. In it we learn how the idea for the show came to be, how Chris Rummell, manager at REDUX acquired the originals and that Chris is thinking about making this a yearly show! I love {Read More}

PAMELA GOES ICE FISHIN’

Pamela Goes Ice Fishin' Featured Image

Tonight was the opening reception of ‘The Altered Paintings Project’ and the turnout was pretty fantastic! So was my beehive! There were some pretty great pieces in the show and some of them were snatched up in the first hour. There were some rad motifs including unicorns, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, ninjas and swirling masses of garbage in the ocean. A lot of the pieces were done as collage, some were done with pens, others with glitter and some {Read More}
