AHSOKA TANO: ONE LOVELY JEDI

Ahsoka Facebook Banner

This drawing presented a challenge: make a highly stylized animated character look a little more realistic. I wanted Ahsoka to look  more like the Leia and Padmé drawings and less like she does in the Clone Wars serials, but it’s not like I could base her likeness on a human actress. What to do?! It took some thought but I came up with what I thought the tough little Togruta would look like if she was to be played by {Read More}

LIGHTSABER GIF!

Lightsaber WIP GIF

I’ve been posting screen shots on Facebook  of the Ahsoka Tano drawing I’m working on for my Star Wars ladies set, but I wanted to go a little more in depth so I made an animated gif! I’m still working on tightening up the outlines and I haven’t added the shading to most of the handle yet, but I’m almost done with one of Ahsoka’s lightsabers so I  thought before I’m finished I should show you my process in gif form. {Read More}

A BAND CALLED DEATH

Death Album Cover

I remember seeing this New York Times article years ago about the Detroit band, Death, but I have just finished watching the documentary about them and it was so inspiring and so moving I just had to jump online and talk about it. ‘A Band Called Death’ is the story of the band, formed by three brothers in 1973, and their attempts at getting signed and the rejection that followed mostly due to their name. The rejection may also have {Read More}

MUTE

Mute Screen Grab

Look at this CG animation short from Dutch animation studio Job, Joris & Marieke! It is both utterly charming and seriously disturbing at the same time. I love the way they animated the boobs! Boobs. Boobs. Now that word doesn’t seem real to me. Anyway, according to this post from DigitalArts, the film has been screened at the Dutch Film Festival and the Anim’est festival in Bucharest. Congrats J, J & M!  -S.

CATCHING UP

Catering display

It has been a while since I’ve posted, so much has happened in the last month and a half. I started working in from a different location, I got a nasty cold virus, the company I work for merged with six other companies, then a bunch of really fun stuff happened. I have been out almost every night for the last two weeks, so today was all about relaxing, taking naps and catching up with Breaking Bad before the finale {Read More}

QUEEN AMIDALA

Queen Amidala Final JPEG copy

Today I finished the second in a series of art nouveau inspired drawings of the ladies of Star Wars. This drawing is of Queen Amidala wearing the frilly gown from the parade scene in Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. I was able to add more detail to this drawing than the Leia one since I used the Intuos Cintiq this time around. I also borrowed Tatooine and Polis Massa and the surrounding moons, suns, etc. from the Leia drawing so {Read More}

GIFT WRAP, TEA PAINTING & DEADEYES

Tea Painting

I feel like I haven’t blogged in a while. After rebuilding my site, spending time categorizing my past blog posts and learning my way around Corel Painter I guess I haven’t had much time for blogging. So this is just a quick post about stuff that’s been going on over the last month or so. First off, I got some goodies from Spoonflower. Here is my Princess Leia drawing as gift wrap. Fun!   And here are the swatches of {Read More}

AMELIA’S POND?

A dalek head was found in a pond near Hampshire! Looks like it may have ended up there during the Colin Baker years as apparently some episodes of “Doctor Who” were filmed there in the 80’s. That must have been an incredibly surreal moment!  -S.

TRASHED

My pal Sven Eberlein recently reviewed Jeremy Irons’ new eye opening documentary film, Trashed. Ever since humans have been around we’ve been creating waste. Over the years, however, we’ve started creating waste that won’t break down. In an attempt to get rid of mounds of garbage and debris, some communities are turning their trash into dioxin, one seriously toxic chemical: “The ingenuity with which technologically advanced Western societies have attempted to get their over-consumption out of sight is on full display in {Read More}

PATTON OSWALT’S FILIBUSTER

According to this Giant Robot article, Patton Oswalt’s Star Wars fueled filibuster on a recent Parks and Rec episode was totally improvised! Also you should follow him on Twitter, hopefully he’ll bring back the late night “gentle” tweets.  -S.
