PROPAGANDA: INDEPENDENCE FOR SCOTLAND

Yes! for Scottish Independence!

On this beautiful Independence Day here in the USA, I feel like it’s important to talk about the upcoming referendum in Scotland on September 18th 2014. If I could vote in this national referendum, which poses the question “Should Scotland be an independent country?” my vote would be a resounding yes! Or as we say back in Scotland, “Aye!” I’m so excited for the referendum even if it doesn’t pass quite yet, I think it’s wonderful that the question is being {Read More}

A BAND CALLED DEATH

Death Album Cover

I remember seeing this New York Times article years ago about the Detroit band, Death, but I have just finished watching the documentary about them and it was so inspiring and so moving I just had to jump online and talk about it. ‘A Band Called Death’ is the story of the band, formed by three brothers in 1973, and their attempts at getting signed and the rejection that followed mostly due to their name. The rejection may also have {Read More}

MUTE

Mute Screen Grab

Look at this CG animation short from Dutch animation studio Job, Joris & Marieke! It is both utterly charming and seriously disturbing at the same time. I love the way they animated the boobs! Boobs. Boobs. Now that word doesn’t seem real to me. Anyway, according to this post from DigitalArts, the film has been screened at the Dutch Film Festival and the Anim’est festival in Bucharest. Congrats J, J & M!  -S.

CATCHING UP

Catering display

It has been a while since I’ve posted, so much has happened in the last month and a half. I started working in from a different location, I got a nasty cold virus, the company I work for merged with six other companies, then a bunch of really fun stuff happened. I have been out almost every night for the last two weeks, so today was all about relaxing, taking naps and catching up with Breaking Bad before the finale {Read More}

LOVE & THEFT

© Andreas Hykade

Today I was checking out the Facebook page of the talented and accomplished artist, Jim Woodring. If you’re not familiar with his dream inspired work I suggest you check it out. Anyway, this morning, Woodring posted a short animated film by Bavarian animator, Andreas Hykade, called Love & Theft and it’s pretty psychedelic and hypnotic. Check it out:     I’m going to have to watch this a few more times to absorb some of the symbolism. I’ll also be checking out Hykade’s other animations. Here’s {Read More}

GIFT WRAP, TEA PAINTING & DEADEYES

Tea Painting

I feel like I haven’t blogged in a while. After rebuilding my site, spending time categorizing my past blog posts and learning my way around Corel Painter I guess I haven’t had much time for blogging. So this is just a quick post about stuff that’s been going on over the last month or so. First off, I got some goodies from Spoonflower. Here is my Princess Leia drawing as gift wrap. Fun!   And here are the swatches of {Read More}

TRASHED

My pal Sven Eberlein recently reviewed Jeremy Irons’ new eye opening documentary film, Trashed. Ever since humans have been around we’ve been creating waste. Over the years, however, we’ve started creating waste that won’t break down. In an attempt to get rid of mounds of garbage and debris, some communities are turning their trash into dioxin, one seriously toxic chemical: “The ingenuity with which technologically advanced Western societies have attempted to get their over-consumption out of sight is on full display in {Read More}

MEN BEHAVING RADLY! 2

donkey-kong-swap-650x0

                I just saw this article on DigitalTrends.com and decided that I might just have to make “Men Behaving Radly!” a reoccurring blog topic. Mike Mika posted a video of his hacked version of Donkey Kong, wherein he changed the roles of the male and female characters, Mario and Pauline. Instead of Pauline being the damsel in distress, Mika hacked the ROM so that his 3 year old daughter could play as Pauline, the hero. The article says that: {Read More}

MEN BEHAVING RADLY!

I’m not a fan of Yahoo! News in general, but this article about Sir Patrick Stewart speaking out about violence against women made me very happy when I read it this morning! On Friday morning, Stewart hosted the launch of “Ring the Bell,” a global campaign that aims to urge men to step up and take action to end violence against women. Here’s the video of Stewart speaking eloquently and candidly at an Amnesty International event, telling his own story about {Read More}
