CARRIE FISHER, REMEMBERED IN ART

We’re quickly approaching the one year anniversary of the day we lost beloved actress and icon, Carrie Fisher. Those of you that are familiar with my art and illustrations may remember the Princess Leia drawing I did several years ago:   As a result of her passing, sales of my print on Etsy went up and I wasn’t sure how to feel about that. It felt strange to profit from such sad news. Yet there were a lot of people {Read More}

A RETURN TO BLOGGING

Hello World! I obviously haven’t been blogging in a long time, but I’d like start up again. If for no other reason than that I enjoy being able to look back on things I posted and what art or music I was excited about. Those of you that follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter know what I’ve up to and that I opened a Society6 shop, check it out here! I’ve also added some new items to my Etsy {Read More}

AHSOKA TANO: ONE LOVELY JEDI

This drawing presented a challenge: make a highly stylized animated character look a little more realistic. I wanted Ahsoka to look ¬†more like the Leia and Padm√© drawings and less like she does in the Clone Wars serials, but it’s not like I could base her likeness on a human actress. What to do?! It took some thought but I came up with what I thought the tough little Togruta would look like if she was to be played by {Read More}

EL DIA DE TONY

Feliz Dias de los Muertos! Since it is the Day of the Dead and his birthday, I decided to do a little painting to honor my late friend, Tony.   Here is the skull, slightly closer up   I wasn’t sure how I was going to represent the facial hair. I did a rough sketch that ended up looking more like the Breaking Bad character, Walter White!   Anyway, happy birthday Tony! And happy day of the dead, everyone! ¬†–S.

BOSTON METAPHYSICAL SOCIETY MINI-SERIES

I was asked by the lovely Madeleine Holly-Rosing if I would help spread the word about the Kickstarter campaign to fund the final three issues of her steampunk themed webcomic mini-series, Boston Metaphysical Society, and of course I said yes! The first three issues of the comic can be read on the website, which is great because that way you can make an informed decision about becoming a backer. And I hope you do because I want to find out how it ends! In {Read More}

ZODIAC STARFORCE

Today I happened upon a beautifully illustrated new web comic called Zodiac Starforce and it looks like it’s going to be awesome! I’m loving the artwork by Paulina Ganucheau, the story has just begun but it certainly seems promising and so far all the main characters are girls so that’s always cool to see. It looks like the comic updates every Tuesday night at 8pm. I’ll be putting this on my calendar for sure. Check it out and let me {Read More}

ALEX’S OCTOPUS

My birthday is in February and this year I was gifted with a handmade card from my nephew, Alex. He loves to draw and I’ve been really into his drawings since he started. He has this confidence when he draws and I really admire the way he’s absolutely sure about every little line that he draws. The theme of my birthday card was land and the sea with the land creatures on the left side of the card and the {Read More}

QUEEN AMIDALA

Today I finished the second in a series of art nouveau inspired drawings of the ladies of Star Wars. This drawing is of Queen Amidala wearing the frilly gown from the parade scene in Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. I was able to add more detail to this drawing than the Leia one since I used the Intuos Cintiq this time around. I also borrowed Tatooine and Polis Massa and the surrounding moons, suns, etc. from the Leia drawing so {Read More}

GIFT WRAP, TEA PAINTING & DEADEYES

I feel like I haven’t blogged in a while. After rebuilding my site, spending time categorizing my past blog posts and learning my way around Corel Painter I guess I haven’t had much time for blogging. So this is just a quick post about stuff that’s been going on over the last month or so. First off, I got some goodies from Spoonflower. Here is my Princess Leia drawing as gift wrap. Fun!   And here are the swatches of {Read More}
