Let’s talk Halloween decor! When Halloween comes around a cozy feeling of nostalgia washes over me and then comes the urge to decorate. Autumn is my favorite season because of the playfulness and creativity that seems to radiate at the start of the holidays. Halloween is the one night of the year when we can galivant all over town in a costume with a hint of mischief in the air. It feels like anything can happen. It’s already October and Halloween will be here soon so it’s time to get into the festive spirit and start decorating!
Look at this fun stuff I found on Amazon!
As someone who struggles with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and depression the way I set up my environment is very important. Priming myself by way of my surroundings is helpful to get me into the right mindset to take on a task, be social or feel creative. I like the ritual of decorating and marking the passage of the seasons. Halloween and autumn decorations are my favorite, I love the color palettes and the subject matter. We’re used to the selection of readily available decorations from the big box stores, but I like to look elsewhere for some unique finds and support artists and small businesses. And I’m bringing you with me!
ATYPICAL HALLOWEEN DECOR
Once you have your lights and your other standard decorations up, start looking at other ways you can work some spooky Halloween decor into your space! There are so many fun options and it will feel like your decor is more intentional and cohesive.
I’m really into some of the art and home decor items that I found on Society6 and thought I’d share them with you. I’ve been licensing my art to Society6 for years and the items I’ve purchased have all been great quality which is why I keep going back for more.
Throw pillows are a great way to sneak more art into a small space and are an unexpected way to tie the Halloween decor theme together. I really like this one above by Caley Hicks called Headless. I also like her Black Cats design which looks great on a rectangular pillow.
Floor rugs, bath mats and side tables are another way you can incorporate Halloween decor into everyday objects in unexpected ways.
SPOOKY DECOR BUT LIKE... ALL THE TIME
If you’re anything like me, you like you’re home decor to be a bit on the strange and unusual side. Unique items that aren’t necessarily Halloween specific and can be part of your decor all year long are my jam.
My apartment isn’t very big and most of the space on my living room walls is already covered with art. I can probably squeeze a few more pieces in the bedroom. I really want to find a spot for the Kitten Bandit framed print by Emily Winfield Martin (seen above) as well as the The Witch’s Bat by Abigail Larson. I’m getting that one printed on a cutting board (see below) as a way to sneak more art into my kitchen since I don’t have a lot of free space in there.

DARK & SPOOKY BOTANICALS
Another way you can incorporate a dark aesthetic into your home decor year round is through black plants. Have you seen the Plant Goth subreddit? You should check it out, so many beautiful plants and gardens! I got both of these beauties below for about $20 on Amazon.
SPELLBOUND BY THE SEASON
Here are some of the Halloween goodies I have for sale in my shop as well as Society6. They’re currently having a sale! 40% off all wall art and 15% off everything else so get yours now!
There are several new art projects I’ll be making this month to get into the spirit so stay tuned for those! I’ll be posting them on my blog as I finish them.
