REDUX STUDIOS & GALLERY
Recently, Redux Studios & Gallery in Alameda put out a call for artists for an upcoming art show called ‘Altered Paintings’ and I went in today and picked up the painting I’m going to alter. It was the last one so I was going to either take or leave it and I took it. I have to say, this one’s going to be a challenge, but hopefully I’ll rise to meet it.
Speaking of meeting, while I was there I met Norma, who hooked me up with the painting (it’s actually more like a poster) and told me all about how Redux works and that a portion of everything sold there goes to the St. Vincent de Paul, a non-profit organization providing assistance to needy men, women and children in Alameda County. I also met Emily who runs a lot of the workshops using reclaimed materials.
So here’s what I have to work with:
Yeah, that was pretty much my reaction! However, I already have some ideas that just might polish this turd so check back in about a month to see how it shapes up.
The ‘Altered Paintings’ show will open April 12 at 2315 Lincoln Ave. in Alameda. Come on down and buy some art for a good cause! –S.
